Re: EVO article on Motorsport Department at Weissach

    Thanks Carlos, nice article.
I always have to smile when I read the comments from Ferrari owners about the F1 championship. I couldn't care less about the F1 (although I enjoy watching it) because I suppose not even 1% of the parts on a F1 Ferrari make it to a street version Ferrari. And now compare a GT3 Cup and a GT3 street version. I think the Porsche Cup races are more interesting because they actually race cars which aren't built specifically to be track cars. Usually Porsche builds the street version and afterwards Porsche Motorsport starts to get rid of weight and adapt the technical stuff to racing conditions. Now THIS is what I call real motorsports, not the F1. The F1 is fascinating because of the drivers and their driving skills on such light and powerful cars. But I would never buy a Ferrari because Michael Schumacher won again the Championship. I know that some of the technical stuff used in the F1 probably makes it to Ferrari street cars but mostly in theory and in a pretty highly adapted version (like the shifting). But in reality, the F1 Ferrari probably has not one single bolt in common with a 360 Modena or 430. Absolutely not interesting for me.

Re: EVO article on Motorsport Department at Weissach

the ONLY thing an Ferrari F1 has in comon with a F360 or F430 is the "color" and only in some cases :P , not even the shifting inspite their marketing and neither does the BMW F1 with SMG. Its like when you see a blockbuster movie from hollywood that says at the beginning of the film "inspired on real events" And ironically, the best sequential tranny by far in the market today is from a maker that does not run in F1, the DSG from Audi/VW.

I'm was LeMans guy myself and think that resistance racing is the best type of racing for developing street cars but LeMans has gone down hill and is basically a Audi/VW cup (I would like to see Porsche compeete in the other categories with the big guys). So the only one left is F1, though its not what it used to be either, by the first pit stop the race is over and its basically a single line parade to the finish line from then on.

Thank god we have MotoGP, now thats racing!

Re: EVO article on Motorsport Department at Weissach

I really enjoyed the article and especially the bit when Hartmut Kristen mentioned customers from the Far East requesting driving these race cars on the road!

I posed one such question not so long ago to have a GT3RS completely free from carpets and a welded-in roll cage. Does anyone remember the 964 and 993 RS Clubsports!?!

I have to admit that just reading the article and looking at the pictures gave me goose-pimples all over! That's what I call the passion for racing!

    Hi RC,
Let's not forget that Ferrari is racing the 575 and 360 against Porsche in gt races. Maybe they are not as active as Porsche in customer racing, but there must be some similarity between the road and race cars here.
Ferrari is using the F1 gearbox in gt racing, do you think it's the same as in the road cars?

BTW thank you CARLOS for the nice article.

Re: EVO article on Motorsport Department at Weissach

Thanks for posting that, Carlos! Would be wild to see one of those RSR's on the street in the Middle East

Not sure about the 575 but the 360 uses a sequential gearbox actuated via lever - just like on the GT3 RSR - and I could imagine that hydraulic actuation is forbidden by regulations!

    Si, muchas gracias Carlos!

Re: EVO article on Motorsport Department at Weissach

Thanks Carlos, seems like I have something to read tomorrow. Especially the white rs with the grey/black livery has a special place in my heart, because, as you might know, I have a RC model of it (see my garage on F6 )
