    Some reflections...

I drove 318 miles yesterday from London to Weymouth and Poole in Dorset then back to London. My 997S was a delight to drive. The traffic when leaving London was atrocious. Plenty of stop/start driving. Once I reached the A4 at Hammersmith, I was able to step on the throttle. From Chiswick, I was doing at least 80mph on the motorway but the temptation to go up to 100mph was irresistable. I'm still breaking-in the engine so I've been keeping below 4200rpm. Nonetheless, I was doing 105mph at 4200rpm in 6th gear! The amazing thing is that one can be doing 80mph and then with a small increase in the accelerator, the speed doesn't just edge upwards, the car bursts forward and it takes hardly any time at all to get to 100mph and it feels like there is tons more in reserve. Breathtaking stuff!!

I used to be indifferent to changing from one motorway to another. Yesterday changing from the M4 to the M3 to the M27 was amazing. Curved slip roads with a max speed of 40mph which I did at 80mph. With -20mm sports suspension, the car was simply glued to the road with zero body roll. It was so thrilling!

BTW, the ride quality on the motorway with -20mm was perfectly fine. One feels everthing which some people may find tiresome after a while but I personally love it.

I took some back roads through the New Forest which were deserted. 100mph in a country road was a thrilling experience in this car.

Arriving in Weymouth, there was a stiff breeze. It was beautiful to escape from London for the day. Walk by the sea. Wonderful drive to Portland Bill with the road winding its way up its hill. What a view from the top!

A fast drive from Weymouth to Poole. No speed cameras. What a smooth road too! One of the best bits of the journey. I was regularly doing 95mph on these A roads. Arriving in Poole, I had some wonderful fish 'n' chips at a place on Sandbanks road. Stayed at Sandbanks for a while. Amazing place. My favourite place in Dorset. Water on both sides. The sea on one side and a quiet marina on the other. It was so peaceful. Stayed there till the evening and then enjoyed a fantastic drive back to London.

What a great day's drive. I am looking forward to many more like it!

Thanks for sharing. A great read.

Interesting story. Glad to hear that someone else besides me enjoys on-ramps.

    One of my favorites...

M25 east bound to M3 south. Nice series of ramps to play with. A303 is also pretty nice if you can avoid the cops around Stonehenge.

    LOL

Yes, it get's to 100+ so fast too, it's hard to prevent it.

    Re: Some reflections...

I hope you didn't eat the F & C in the car, if you did I'm afraid I'd consider never reading one of your posts/threads again.

Nice read BTW, makes me wanna go for a drive.

    Re: Some reflections...

sounds great...photos,for the landlocked, please or next trip

    Re: Some reflections...

No way mate! I ate in the chippy looking out at the car to make sure no one did anything dodgy to it! I never eat in the car!

Don't try using that as an excuse if you get 'copped'.

    Re: Some reflections...

Easy_rider...jealousy is a powerfull thing, something I'm fighting hard ATM after reading your original post! Glad you're having such a good time with the porka..last time I went porsching it was in a cayman s and some thoroughly irresponsible things 'went down'..lets just say despite all the beaurocracy/speed camera [beep] there are still opportunities to have fun in a sports car in the UK..you've just got to be sensible and for a large part..lucky! Glad to see for the time being you are..Im still waiting to hear about my 'pending' legal issues/ IBM don't exactly give 300hp+ company cars at my level!..to all you rennteamers...keep livin' the dream!

    Re: Some reflections...

Thanks for sharing. Living in Annapolis and on the Chesapeake Bay there are a lot of little towns to visit w/ great back roads. I went to Chestertown a few weeks ago, about 1.5 hrs away and the ride was great. It was my 1st chance to really try out the sport mode - and notice the difference. Closer here to town we have a few entry/exit ramps w/ posted speed of 20-25MPH and they can be taken at 50MPH w/ no problem. The car doesn't budge at all - it's like it's glued to the pavement! Safe driving....

    Re: Some reflections...

WTL!.... My wife and I travel to Annapolis quite a bit for regatta's and just to get away. We stay at a B&B called Gibsons, downtown on Prince George St. next to the Academy entrance. I was hoping the there would be an Annapolis Get Together on a Saturday that we would drive down to. I hope to retire there and teach at the Academy when the time comes. Great place to live...GO NAVY!!!

    Re: 2149 miles so far

Did some good trips these past few weekends.

After this trip to Dorset, I had some good drives around Central London, a trip down to Brighton (seaside resort on the south coast) and some good drives around North London this past weekend.

Sorry no pics since the weather hasn't been good enough to take photos worth keeping/posting.

All I can say is that I am really enjoying driving this car. So satisfying!

    Oil usage so far:

    884 miles: 200ml added. 0.2273ml/mile.
    1278 miles: 100ml added. 0.2355ml/mile.
    2101 miles: 200ml added. 0.2384ml/mile.

So far, no problems to report...
