    0-200 9,5 sec.

    0-230 12,6 sec.

    comparisation with 12C Coupe/Spider Videos:

    0-200 8,9 - 9,2 sec.

    0-230 11,9 -12,1 sec

i see that also above it isnt that much difference, and arround the corners with 4wd steering 991 TurboS will be faster on track and also on twisty roads.

nonetheless ill go for 12C next year blush

New speedos are more accurate MKSGR. I don't think the difference will be that big, maybe 3 seconds but not 6.

Porsche speedos are approx. 5% at 300kph, based on my experience Smiley That's how I calculated the 6s.

That is 9 seconds on my stopwatch. Very fast indeed.

I think this video represents straight-line performance of 991 Turbo S very well as opposed to the prototype video from South Africa. It is definitely not a ground-braking improvement over last 997 Turbo S or any competitors. The facelift within the 997 generation brought bigger improvement while adopting PDK. 991 Turbo S (or even the standard version) is an awesome package all in all. But I find a bit disappointing, that 4 years after introduction of 458 Italia, the top of the line 991 is still not able to beat it considerably in acceleration.

Just a short comparison with a stock customer 458 Italia on a flat autobahn: ( source:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNdHA1EIApE)

    200-250 km/h:

    458 - 6,0s (according to GPS)

    991 Turbo S - cca 6,3s according to speedo

    200-300 km/h

    458 - 21s according to GPS

991 Turbo S - 200-298 according to speedo in cca 18s (considering speedo error probably similar to 458)

According to pride355 measurements, 991 Turbo S will not be faster in 100-200 km/h as well. The only advantage is in 0-100 km/h.

Yes, the 458 is not as usable, but as I said, it is 4 years old and 991 Turbo S is not able to outrun it. And that is the 458, not even a McLaren.

I agree with you on 991 Turbo S. It's almost not faster than previous 997.2 Turbo S.... and it's very-very dissapointing. Not sure now about buying it. I expected better increase over 997.2. It's a mistake for Porsche. Many customers will choose competitors...

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

In an ideal world the new 991 Turbo should be faster than the last 997 turbo S and the 991 turbo S should kill anything else on the road. Maybe it will happen, but we have to wait for real hands on reviews.

the killing of anything else on the road part, is going to be somewhat difficult, because porsche says the S in Sport Plus mode can do the 100-200 sprint in 7.2s (10.3-3.1). compare that to the 12C's 5.7s (8.8-3.1). Can porsche be off by 1.5s? its possible, but even then that wont be enough to kill anything else on the road.

i think the numbers will look more like this, the S will kill anything on the road up to 100, doing it maybe in 2.8s but the sprint to 200 will take at least 9.3/9.5s (there is no way porsche is off by more than one full second), which means in real life the 100-200 is going to be no better than mid sixes, too slow to dominate or even match some cars like the 12c.  cant wait for real life results, they will be very interesting.

Why should the GT2 be faster or even as fast above 140kph ? weight will help but not so much over 200kph, aero should favour the 991ttS, the GT2 should lose out a second on a couple of gear changes and has 20hp less Smiley

It was probably just hypothetical outcome of what they would except knowing that the GT2 has a higher top speed than the Turbo S, I don't think they actually raced them.

do we know the gear ratio of the 991.

7speed massive overdrive, where does the 6 speed end...

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

    end at the top speed

    TB993tt:

Looks like 6th ends at the 318kph (~325 on clock ?) top speed....

not sure, 5th gear at 6000 is about 238, shift to 6the gear about 287, so 5th gear from 6000-7200rpm is about + 50kmh, so 6th at 7200rpm is probably over 330kph on the clock as he is longer than 5th...., but thats just a guess

if you i look the vid again 6th gear is engaged at about 6000rpm with 287kmh at 6200rpm we have about 298 kmh so if 200rpm on 6th gear is about 10kmh we could probably also say 6000-7200rpm is about 60 kmh, so theoretical 7200rpm on 6th = 340kmh (all tacho speeds) (not to sure if my calculation works like this)

Does someone have hard facts from the gear ratio and the relevant speeds..

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

Gearing looks about 48.8kph/1000rpm so presumably it hits max speed at peak power in 6th ie 6500rpm ?

Porsche chose 305 tires to have an excuse and keep the top speed below 325 kph for the turbo S and had no problems doing so on the older chassis with the GT2 + RS enlightened

Good comparisons. C7 looks like a melted hot wheels and the GT-R is just way too chunky. The 991 is a beautiful car, the Turbo is just a bit over styled I guess, and everything looks awkward and like it doesn't fit properly.

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

Guys, I'm back from a three week US vacation (New York, Las Vegas), I apologize for not being involved too much into this very interesting thread for the past weeks.

I read all this criticism but I really cannot find any real justification for it. Yes, Porsche should have given the 991 Turbo S more power, this is the only thing I can actually criticize but I really think that you see too much competition...where there is none (or not much). The 458 has been already annihilated by the 997 Turbo S, so forget about the 458. Maybe it's successor or facelift could be a true competitor.

McLaren is a different story but despite the fact that the MP4-12C will never be the daily driver a 991 Turbo S can be: I just opened my mail and found a very interesting lease offer for a MP4-12 Coupe and Spider from my local McLaren dealer. The boss of that dealership was the owner of my current Porsche dealership (surprise surprise...) and I really think that McLaren tries to target mostly Porsche customers now. With the new Turbo S coming, I think McLaren is kind of afraid that they could loose customers, so they made this amazing lease offer, which is better than my 991 Turbo S lease offer (and I really got a good one). I really think that Porsche should be careful not to loose potential customers  because let's face it: While the MP4-12C is not the best daily driver for Germany/Bavaria, it is a very good performer and an "exotic". If McLaren makes better lease offers than Porsche, Porsche could be in trouble. Just saying...

Still, I think that the 991 Turbo S doesn't have much competitors but I think we just need to wait for the first REAL reviews, not just some driving around. From my personal Turbo S experience, I can really say that I do not regret ordering the car (I told you before). This is no GT3 of course but this is another thing I do not understand: Why would people want to choose between a GT3 and a Turbo S? Two completely different cars in my opinion, this is why I would love to own both.

I expect 0-100 kph in 2.9-3.0 seconds, 0-200 kph in 9.9-10.0 seconds, 0-300 kph in 29.9 seconds and a Nordschleife time (by Horst v. Saurma) in 7:32 min on street tires, maybe Hockenheim Kleiner Kurs around 1:09 min. If this isn't enough for you, look somewhere else.

Repulsive, is too strong a word for the least successful design of the 991 range.

But definitely, the designers should have tried harder.

Good review, good comparo to the 997 gt2.

"Sprint from 140 km/h and both cars accelerate at roughly the same, yet incredible pace, above 200 km/h the GT2 starts to gain and ultimately tops out well above the 318 km/h top speed of the Turbo S."

There are so many inaccuracies in that "review" and the 997 GT2 they compared it to was a customer car, not a press car, so who actually knows if it wasn't tuned? I find it hardly to believe that from 140 kph on, the GT2 would have the same acceleration. In a comparison with my Panamera Turbo S, we were absolutely head to head up to 180 kph a couple of times (from standstill) and I assume the new 991 Turbo S is a little bit faster than my former Panamera Turbo S. Smiley

Also, they criticize that the 991 Turbo S isn't as nearly as exotic or loud as a 458 or MP4-12C but this is exactly the point of the 991 Turbo S, not to be as exotic or loud. Some car journalists still don't understand the purpose of the 911 Turbo...after so many years.

I wait for the Sport Auto review... Smiley

According to what I've remember, the designers had two groups to deal with: One group wanted a more spectacular design (US and Middle East/Asia) and the other one wanted a more stealth look to be socially acceptable (Europe). This is the result. You cannot please everybody. The new 991 Turbo S follows the 911 Turbo design language perfectly, not really sure I understand the criticism. The only thing I don't like are the Panamera Turbo derived front bumper turn signals/daylight running lights but I heard that this was a decision on a very very high CEO level to give all Turbo models the same design language in the Porsche family (which I consider to be a mistake).
