    New transmission - GOOD RESULTS!

Just got my car back, dealer installed the 05 Transmission module on my car and it fixed all the problems I had. The car is very smooth like MB now!! When I step on the gas, it is very smooth, no more spilling coffee (egas). Also when I switch to tiptronic and I go with the M3 gear, and I down shifted to M2 and put it back to M3, usually I hear some transmission noise. I tried to do this several times after I had the new transmission, and the result is excellent! I am very happy with my car

Re: New transmission - GOOD RESULTS!

What about part numbers and the description on your service ticket. Can you give us some more details?

Re: New transmission - GOOD RESULTS!

I will ask him for the paper, I was in a rush, did not pick up any paper work. My good friend is the service manager, and my car was the first one they changed.

Austin: do you mind telling me what people are complaining about the cayenne? The thread is pretty long and can you please list them down?

Re: New transmission - GOOD RESULTS!

Go to the beginning. My first post is fairly descriptive.

There are others on this forum and other forums. Just search for lurching or hesitation or throttle response.

After reading some of those descriptions, is that the behavior your dealer fixed or do you feel like your complaint/symptoms were different?

Re: New transmission - GOOD RESULTS!

DEETZ, are you sure you had the same complaints as we had?
Because I actually WANT that "spilling coffee" reaction of the eGas.
Maybe here lies the problem why Porsche didn't offer a satisfactory update yet: some people want a smooth eGas with smooth shifting and other people want to have a fast and immediate eGas reaction, including a very fast and aggressive up- and downshift.

I can't hide the feeling that, although some of us apparently talk about the same issue, we actually mean (or want) something else.

Maybe I should put it this way: what annoys me very much on my Cayenne Turbo is the pedal way until the engine reacts accordingly. On the ML55 I just have to slightly press the foot on the throttle and the car "shoots" away.

Maybe the comparison with the new Porsche 997 would be a good one (equipped with the Chrono Sport Package): it is like the difference between the throttle reaction when the chrono sport "sport" button is activated or not.
Of course the 997 has a very good throttle reaction even without pressing that button but I just wanted to explain what I expect from Porsche for my Cayenne Turbo.
I want a throttle response as if I would have the 997 chrono sport package on board and the "sport" button is activated. I can't hide the feeling that this is exactly what Cayenne Turbo powerkit owners get. Maybe with a button to turn it on and off?

Re: New transmission - GOOD RESULTS!

RC: Egas is adapted to how you drive the car, there is a thread in rennlist on how to reset the egas. I just drove the car again and I felt that the car is very aggresive. The problem that was fixed is the transmission noise, when it changes gears, sometimes it made noise, sounds like it did not go to the proper gear. But it is very smooth now, smooth as well as aggresive. This is my main point. I tried to put it in wrong gear and no noise was made. I am very happy and impressed. I used to drive my car with the auto transmission but I no longer use that, I only drive it with the tiptronic. I feel that the tip has less lag than last time, I feel it this way because everytime I shift to higher gears, it shifts faster than last time. I am 101% positive about this, my gf felt that too, she wasnt even driving the car

As important for me, it keeps on 'shooting'. The Cayenne moves of the line and then hangs sometimes.

I'll gladly pay the 997 Chrono price to get this on the CT.

Re: New transmission - GOOD RESULTS!

    Deetz,

I believe everyones complaint is about the behavior when in automatic mode, not manual/tiptronic. In Tiptronic, there's not enough lag or delay for me to complain about so I don't have an issue there. My problem is just in auto mode.

Also, I have heard of some complaints of transmission noise when downshifting but I have not experienced any problems there either. I actually hear the transmission noise complaint more often regarding the Touareg but maybe it affects some Cayennes as well.

    RC,

I agree about the possible confusion on what "lurching" is, although I am certain the predominant complaint on this forum, and others like it, is the delay problem that we understand all too well. You have previously made reference to a Porsche update that slowed the throttle response in response to complaints of spilled coffee. I'm like you, when I hit the throttle I want that coffee to spill all over me!

Re: New transmission - GOOD RESULTS!

Austin: I understand that! I will double check on the lag in auto mode tomorrow morning. Is the problem occuring when the gears go up to D6 pretty quick? I have asked my dealers and they told me that Porsche does this to save the gas consumption. I still get the spilling coffee thing you mentioned, eventhough the transmission is very smooth like MB now, if I push the gas hard, I still spill some coffee. Not very comfortable for the passengers, but I love it

Re: New transmission - GOOD RESULTS!

The coffee spilling description was the cause of a fix from early 04 models. This remapping of the eGas curve was to stop the effect, it made the gas peddle more proportional (mm of travel to thrust ratio). This was what US users wanted to combat heavy commuter traffic stop/go issues.

Of course the right way to combat it would have been to make the PSM button the sport mode switch for those who wanted the take off thrust.

On my MB, it to would lose its oomph after a week or so of sedate driving and had to be shocked back into fast mode by basically driving is like a maniac for a few miles. after that it jumped again.

Couldn't agree more on this point.

Re: New transmission - GOOD RESULTS!

Mine gets the 05 module today, I hope it has as good results as Deetz reports

Re: New transmission - GOOD RESULTS!

Let us know of the results mick

Re: New transmission - GOOD RESULTS!

    Mick: hows urs doing?

I noticed something, I think I had the really old module before and last time when I turned off the PSM, it still started with D2 or M2. I tried to turn off the PSM today and it started in D1 or M1. Still has lag with PSM on in auto tranny because of the gas consumption. But very very aggresive with the PSM off.

    Newer transmission control module

Don't know if I'd say it was a "really old module" but it certainly sounds like you had an early one. What's your build date?

With the more recent modules, like you had installed, it looks like you'll start off in D1 with PSM off.

If it matches your style, there shouldn't really be a need to tip down off-the-line even with the PSM on if you want D1. Just jab the pedal pretty aggressively off the line and it'll take it self down to D1 for you. That keeps you out of M1 and the 8 second delay to get back to it shifting automatically.

For the CT, even the newer modules seem to up shift automatically too soon under typical intercity (roll on and not mash) throttle. I think it would be nice if the transmission held 2nd to 3rd a bit longer (2.2k-2.5k RPM?) and downshift from 3rd to 2nd sooner (1.5k-2k RPM?). I think this would help for rolling (California stop) turns and when you're pulling out into/cutting across traffic.
