Re: Pics in the Garage. Not Mine yet

I would go for the GT3, I have the 997TT and it is a little too competant and boring. Once you get used to the power it doesn't entertain as much as the GT3. Just looking at trading my TT in on a GT3 RS

Re: Pics in the Garage. Not Mine yet

Yah turbo power is fun but after a while its get ok.

GT3 funner car no doubt but Turbo is a good compromise. Kinda weird telling people yah I bought a 130K car and no rear seats...

Re: Pics in the Garage. Not Mine yet

my opinion driving the GT3 around for awhile it's more a weekend car, and track. Driving this car for a week with the fun factors won't translate the I won't drive this car every day until a month or so. If your getting out of a 997tt I think at that point you will miss the tq/pwr.

And I welcome your dissenting opinion. I still stand by my original assessment though, which is the GT3 is NOT NECESSARILY the best solution for EVEYONE. Meaning, the ride is perfect for you, but not for me; the torque is good enough for you, but not for me. The explosive acceleration of the Turbo is a "must have once in a lifetime" experience for me, but I won't feel bad if it means nothing to you.

If you post this question in the Lotus forum, I suspect there will more than one member asserting that the Exige is lighter, feels more direct, has arguably "better" engine placement choice and weight distribution, and is a "purer" sport car than the GT3. This is why I am having some difficulty scheming about my next car, GT3 vs. Lotus.

To me there is no perfect track AND road car, if you feel so about the GT3, I am happy for you.

GT3 is one of the best track cars in the world, but for daily use where the engine is not above 5000 rpm all the times, low end torque, power, and linear acceleration could be betterI would love to have one, but only for the weekends.

I gotta disagree... I havnt driven a 997 GT3 'properly' yet, but i owned a 996 MKII and it was my ONLY car during that period.
Was it bad being a daily driver?? Hell No.
Its far from being a luxurious, cosseting drive but its nowhere as bad as some may think.
The power may be at the top end of the rev range but its still plenty powerfull down low. Driving it slow is no problem. Ride? Bone Jarring? No IMO. It doesnt glide like a Merc but its far from uncomfortable... The biggest thing for me was the fact that the steering is so sharp so you cant relax as much when driving fast. Another is that the wheels/steering tramlines quite alot, following road imperfections...
Gotta say that GT3 can be used everyday and the newer version should be better in each and every regard

I'm not saying its the perfect road and track car (us there such a thing even ), I'm saying its a good compromise .
The GT3 is far from a perfect daily driver, I'm just saying tis liveable and useable as many think its practically un-useable for daily driving.
Same as with a Ferrari 430 for example, its not the best but its possible

Same discussion with overwhelming preference for the GT3

He's already made the switch. He even changed his nickname to "SeattleGT3" too.

Thank you!! I agree and could not have said it better myself. Sorry I have to snip your paragraph to get to its essence.

As mentioned, no question it's a GREAT GREAT track car but I do wish for PSM and a little more torque below (i.e. the true "king," GT2). Even with weight taken into consideration, max 300 lb-ft at 5500 rpm --the lowest torque figure in the world for sport, or maybe worse, any type of cars, costing above $ US 80k??-- is just not going to cut it for me for street use. And plus there is that Lotus Exige, arguably a lighter and more "direct" experience.

Gotta agree with cannga, IMO that wing is fugly.

So as you heard from Jason. Yes this is a done deal. TT is traded in the GT3 is in the garage, This week it got paint protection and 3M film on the front hood and front fenders. The Clutch, the Exhaust , the 415HP, the Rev limiter at 8400 are just amazing. Don't get me wrong i loved the TT, but was looking for something new. Very few folks have the opportunity to drive a GT3. On paper you look at the two and you think well geez its clear you should aspire to a turbo. But drive one and you will be blown away. I do agree that the wing is ugly. In fact the car was parked in front of starbucks and we were sitting inside and the couple at the next table said Boy that thing is ugly on the back of that car! My wife wants to know if there is a way I can remove it. I like the view from the front and the rear but not the side, Oh well a small prce to pay, for demon of a car.

    Hey..
IMO from certain angles its not that bad ie directly from behind and from the front. From the side however it does look like it doesnt belong there. It reminds me of the 996 MKI GT3 wing (boomerang shape)... Maybe you can have it replaced with the MKII wing when it comes out or even a RS wing...

Re: Pics in the Garage. Not Mine yet

I didn't tell Brad about your car, Rich. He probably saw your post about it on here.

I actually kind of like the wing and agree wholeheartedly with Rich's sentiment that you cannot fully judge a car until you've driven it. I've been lucky enough to have gotten behind the wheel of a GT3 several times. Despite that, I still love my Turbo. It may not be as raw but with the modifications I've made to it, it's about 95-97% of what the GT3 is and it has the addictive rush when accelerating too.
