I know...superhero vision and all. Smiley He is expensive as hell though. Smiley Smiley I order my contact lenses online now, saves me around 400 EUR per year (compared to his prices). Last reading glasses were 20 bucks (US supermarket) vs. the 200 bucks he charged for his ones. He is a nice guy though, so I support him whenever I can (and whenever he doesn't want to rob me Smiley Smiley).

To me the R looks way too bland  . I have seen now quite a few times two drive around my area . On in GT Silver and one in Gulf blue ( same owner ) . The Gt silver could be a GTS , hardly any difference ...... and a GTS only looks like a GTS to us , for anyone else it looks like a Carrera .  The Gulf blue looks already better on the roads, but just because of the color .  When I saw it first in the dealers parking garage it did not look good . But on the road it is different .

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Here is the aftermath of my day at my track with the 911R:

    IMG_3783.JPG

Yes, my track runs counter clockwise, and the let turns are mostly banked.

I drove it on track, nothing special. The manual transmission is a hinderance on track even with auto rev match. At the speed I was driving, I am losing a lot of time shifting manually, the novelty of a manual wears of after like 2 laps. My hands are not fully controling the steering wheel while the car was moving side to side at maximum braking, and i wasted a lot of times shifting during the lap. I had my friend out in the R when i was in my GT4 ClubSport, we start off in 20 seconds interval, and I passed him in the ClubSport after 3/4 of a lap on the out lap. And no, he is not bad at all driving a manual, but the PDK is just that much better! I seriously cannot imagine driving anything other than paddle shifter on a track!

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

You got better with your G's , but were you not better with the Rs ? indecision

Interesting  you are saying this about PDK vs manual .

Lately I was completely fed up with PDK on my RS ( only driving on public roads and found it too boring  ) . I had my mind set that my next GT car will be manual .

Wednesday I did my first track day of the season . I drove my RS PDK ( which I drive only in manual )   and my brother's GT4 real  manual . As you said, after a few laps with the manual , I felt it had not it's place on a track . At least not for what I am looking for on the track . The RS has a limit that is so high that already trying to take the car to where it is possible to go with PDK is challenging enough , fun, and fast .  With the GT4 in manual it felt more like an ' old timer ' drive  and that the box was actually  just keeping the car back from it's possibilities . You need to have it  exactly right all the time, otherwise you loose way too much time .

Speaking with my brother , who races in the Cup championship since about 10 years, he also felt that on the track, he would not have anything else then PDK .

Driving back home ( 2.5h ) I took the GT4 through  the country roads . There the manual was wonderfully entertaining . It has it place for spirited drives on open roads .

My mind is now back on PDK for my next GT car , as I use it mainly to do track days . To do spirited drives I am looking at the Carrera 2.7( pure mechanical from A to Z )   which is still under project .

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

I just realized I just joined the very elite club of those who tracks a 911R smiley

Funny thing, the car disappeared in the paddock, almost every one walked by it without realizing what it is. Either after they got passed on the track and saw the badge on the rear or being told by someone that there is a R there when they started to gather around the car to look at it.

    Mission accomplished. Stealthy car!

Heading home today, 400km of winding mountain highway, on that I don't mind shifting in the R, it's enjoyable there.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Glad to see you getting the R on the track!  Did you ever drive a GT4 (not Clubsport) on the track?  I found the manual gearbox there very comfortable to use (and rev-match made it almost too easy).  I'm not coming from a PDK-S car though...

BTW, I agree that manual can be fun in certain areas. However when I think of all the times sitting in traffic and having to shift I want to vomit. Takes all the enjoyment out of a $175,000 car.surprise

Not sure how one can enjoy a PDK GT3 in traffic either...
