    Re: Area 27 track

Those dump trucks been doing it already laugh

I was suppose to have that chance with the 918 for a video shoot but due to scheduling problem the photo has been pushed back. So officially someone else will.

But it really doesn't matter, our track is done and it will be there for a long time, no hurry.

The track construction appears to be progressing well.  Hopefully this track will not face the same challenges that other tracks like Laguna Seca and even Spa in Belgium face - noise restrictions due to local complaints. It seems as though this track is remote enough that it will not be an issue.

That will never be a problem, the Indian band owns every piece of land around the track and the Chief is a big gear head, rolls around in a modified loud Harley!. In other words, he loved the noise!

The walls seem to be pretty close to the track on these last photos . Are those places not at accident risks ?

Good point. I am not a fan of concrete walls for tracks because they pose a serious injury risk but I think the safety systems (run-out areas, walls, protective fences, etc.) are kind of standardized and there are certain regulations in motorsports.

And I assume those trees won't be left there next to the track? Trees have no place inside a track. Or are they going to be behind walls? But they are pretty close to the asfalt in some areas. Hard to judge until it's finished.

Any place is accident risk due to the fact that not all accidents are single run offs from the normal trajectories into the run off areas, some are collisions in which vehicles are sent off in any direction and at any place in the track. Maybe it's the perspective of the photos and those areas are really really slow areas that don't carry enough inertia?

    Re: Area 27 track

That's turn 7, cars are coming towards the camera in that last photo. It's one of our slowest corner. That's a double apex turn also and the trees are well inside and between the 2 apexes. So unless someone got it really really wrong, the trees are not in play. But then again if someone got it really really wrong then anything will be in play.

We are waiting for the asphalt to cure before we do some test runs and check where the tire walls will go.

FIA has already signed off on us being a level II track.

    Re: Area 27 track

I guess it's pretty hard to gauge these things just from photos and they can be very misleading, test runs will be definitive and there is always time to fix any reservations regarding safety if they arise then. It's just that as a motorcycle rider, trees anywhere near the track asfalt is unsettling.

I saw on the Facebook page of Area 27 that they have been doing test runs with a NASCAR style race car.  Any update as to when the members will be able to take their road cars for a spin?

Yes right now it's testing days, need to find spots where cars are likely to go off for the tire wall. Officially, the members will start using the track August 14 during the first of the orientation schools.

A few of them finally realized a race car or at least a dedicated track car is the way to go (I told them so hence I ordered a ClubSport), so they are looking at their options right now.

High HP definitely has an advantage with the 3 long straights, but car handling is also key for some of the tricky corners.

Right now the 675LT has the fastest lap time, if I remembered correctly it was 2 minutes and 30 seconds or something. But that's just the 1st of many sessions to come.

Oh I know you got a ClubSport Smiley. But from everyone I've talked to they are about 2-2.5 seconds a lap slower than a 997 Cup Car around most high 1 minute-mid-2 minute tracks (Mosport, Sebring, Silverstone etc...).

I will give you dollars to doughnuts that you're going to have an arms race amongst your members. The Clubsport is the prefect car to learn the track but once you've learned it...Smiley

Having driven the Cup car, I have no illusion that I can drive it fully, I am still quite a bit behind the curve. Once I can master the CS then I might graduate to the Cup car.

A seasoned driver will be faster in a CS than me in a Cup car, hell, a pro will probably faster in a GT3RS than me in a Cup car.

    Re: Area 27 track

So impressive that one construction in canada been done in a short time, indecision, but congrat Nick, very well done. As cup car, still I see people coming back for 996, specially the one experiencing 991 one. I don't get it tho.

    Re: Area 27 track

Whoopsy, I have many persons I know that are driving Cup cars , all of them being ' normal' non professional , just amateur , car enthusiasts .... and they all got quickly accustomed to the Cup .

I have no doubt you will quickly want something faster then the CS , and be able to drive the Cup pretty fast too,  but it is , indeed, a good and cheap way to start ...

A good driver will be faster in the CS then a mediocre/bad driver in the Cup ....

That's the right way to do it. Drive the CS until you're faster than the car, then get a faster car. A lower powered car like that will make you a much better driver in the long run, teach you to carry speed through corners, be easier on the brakes etc...

Cup cars aren't really hard to drive, it's just a very significant adjustment for people that have only driven street or mild track cars before. The suspension set-up (esp massive spring rates) is very foreign and it's a lot easier driving it at 8-9/10ths than it is trying to get around at 5/10ths (though at first THAT feels like 9/10ths!). It's just like going from recreational skis to race skis. You have to be agressive on the race skis to bend them but then they come alive.

You have the same significant adjustment the first time you go to real ground effects.

For the record, I think a radical is the perfect track car for that track. Easy and cheap to run, open top to enjoy the weather and fast as stink.

I'm speechless how fast you guys could accomplish this track. Wasn't it just days ago when you started?

Congrats Nick - great project, very beautiful track. You will have a lot of fun out there!!!! Enjoy!

    Re: Area 27 track

Including the planning phase it was over 3 years now.

But once permits and paper works are done, the actual construction took only about 9 months from ground breaking.

Jacque decided to use a lot of the natural flow of the land so we don't have to move even more dirt, and we were lucky to have access to giant mining machines, had we used regular heavy equipments it would have taken a bit longer. For example the CAT D9 we were using is double the size of the normal D8 which are used in normal constructions.
