    Dealership problems. Please help.

Hi everyone, I have a 1995 993 with 40,000 km on it. When I took it to the dealership about 2 months ago I told the mechanics that my gearbox felt a bit tight (gears wouldn't go in properly). When I came to pick up the car they said it was just the gearbox oil, and that it was running like new. I drove the car on a highway for about 300km, and then 50 more in the city, and suddenly the car got stuck in third gear and wont come out. I spoke to a friend of mine who's a mechanic and he said it was the gear selector. Then I spoke to my dad and he said he had already taken the car in 8000km ago complaining about the gearbox, but they made him change the clutch, wich cost us about 2000 Euro . I'm planning to go down to the dealership sometime this week and ask that they do the job for free or at least with a big discount. Can anyone give me some advice on talking to them, or tell me if I can get them to do it for free? If not, does anyone have an estimate on how much it would cost?
What really makes me mad is that this is an official porsche dealership and i expect better servicing from them. I wouldn't mind paying for it if it was my fault, but I think they should be held responsible. I have already posted this on rennlist and was told there was a service bulletin out regarding this problem, but if anyone here has anything they can add I'd like to hear it.
I'm not really sure if I posted this in the right part of the forum?

    Re: Dealership problems. Please help.

This could be a variety of problems, a shift connector, or a worst case a bad syncro/gear. Is there a grinding noise?

Since there is no 993 forum here, yes this is the correct forum.

You may also try they have a comprehensive 993 section with quite a lot of discussions.

    Re: Dealership problems. Please help.

I tried the 993 forum, but I waned to know if anyone here could help. I know exactly what the problem is, I just need to know what I can do abour it, since it was the dealership that ignored a problem that was pointed out to them twice.

    Re: Dealership problems. Please help.

I would select as much knowledge as possible reg. that subject, they will surely try to discuss you out of the issue. If you have your friend with you or have decent knowledge on the subject, their position is surely weakened.
If you can get a printout about that gearselector bulletin you would surely have a trump card in your hands.

For the future I'd consider to look out for a more appropriate place to service the car, either a different Porsche dealership or an independent one for the minor works (the ones not considered in the service book).

Which Porsche dealership are you referring to? Lisboa? There are a couple more Portugese here on the forum, they might you help on that subject as well. Good luck!

    Re: Dealership problems. Please help.

Yes I'm referring to the dealership in Libson, and if I ask, shouldn't they look up the service bulletin for me? Because I have no idea where to find it....

    Re: Dealership problems. Please help.

They should stand behind their work and they have already screwed around with that area twice.

Owning anything past the warranty period, especially a porsche can be a diificult thing, it is part of the expected ownership experience of 928's to do the repair and maintenance yourself. It can be be very satisfying.

    Re: Dealership problems. Please help.

Yea, I'd love to do the work myself, but I live in lisbon, the capital, and in an apartment, where I don't even have a personal garage, so I don't really have the place to try work on it.
