    Murcielago successor/replacement

     Does anyone have factory/insider info about WHEN the Murcie successor/replacement will be presented / in production?

    A friend of mine is planning to get the Lp560-4 but he wonders whether he'd better wait for the Murcie successor.

    Same rumoured specs are being repeated : 700hp, CF chassis, 1500kg kerb, big step forward for lambo

    I thought they would release it soon. 2010 would be correct. Murcielago is pretty old now and needs a successor. And LP670 is just a limited edition for 1 year, correct ?

     2010 would be correct but there were reports it was delayed until at least 2012. Can anyone get info from dealer/factory ?

    Talked to my dealer today. No news expected through 2010. Plan is to carry on building the Murci through 2010 and then close and re-tool the production line for the new car. If you've been to the factory you will see that there is no room for a 3rd line, the Murci line needs to be re-done. My bet (not his) is Geneva 2011. Separately, the LPXXX-4 SL is nearer. No details yet but no surprises - more power less weight and definately AWD. Dealer demos are showing up in the order system for March 10 so probably unveiled Geneva. First customer builds are prob May, spec therefore needs to be finalised Jan. dealers due to get details to allow this before Xmas. I am pencilled in for an early car so will keep you posted.

    Looks like 22" rims are a go... Oh an I see the ones from the bus will also fit. Maybe those will look good for winter tires.

    According to autocar :

    - 2011 release

    - 7,0l V12, 700-720hp

    - kerb weight less than 1500kg (similar to 458 italia thanks to CF chassis)

    - 0-62mph in 3,0s, 0-100mph in 6,0s

    - top speed close to 230mph

    - "totally cutting edge" cabin

    Sounds too good to be true. But autocar previews of new Lambos were almost spot on lately (550-2, new superleggera).

     Even it's still a mule, we can already see the basic shape (side air intakes locations, windowline). I think it looks like a Diablo, especially from the windowline (notice it!) which is a great thing as I've always thought the Murcielago is kinda tame compared to the Diablo.

    But 300,000 Pounds ?? What's with the pricing ?

    Comments from anyone else ?

     that makes sense since the competitor for the 458 is the Gallardo range.

    Of course it will be faster, it has to be! These car are in different leagues and with 130 hp more than the Italia, the new Murciélago must be quicker. Smiley

    it's only a camo.

    I got the info that the new Jota is doing tests @ Nardò handling track in these days and...maybe will be unveiled before we think :)

    Does anyone know/remember the time gap between the launch of the Murcielago and the Gallardo in continental Europe ? I don't want to use the US system of Model Year (MY) as it makes things more confusing. Reason asking is, I'm trying to figure out how long after the Jota is launched, will the Gallardo's successor follow. Yes, it could differ slighly than the Murcielago/Gallardo pair, but it could paint a picture. Lamborghini has stated that the plan is for the first hybrid Lambo be available in 2015. Now I don't care much about the hybrid part, but it gives a clue for 2 scenarios now in the planning stages : 1. The Gallardo will have a longer lifespan than a Murcie, and its successor will be launched in 2015 alongside the hybrid version. Sense behind this : Lambo will concentrate on marketing the Jota. 2. The Gallardo will have a similar lifespan as the Murcie, and the successor is on track to be launched after the Jota, with a hybrid version available in 2015 at the earliest.

    Considering the Gallardo went through a major refresh last year, I wouldn't expect to see the new Gallardo until 2013 at earliest. So if the new Jota drops in 2011 > 2013 Gallardo Replacement > 2014 Jota SV or something > > >

     The Jota  is supposed to use Audi's aluminum space frame technology. The knock on the Countach/Diablo/Murcielago has always been that they weigh  too much.  If that mass can finally be engineered away, it would be very interesting.

     Heard that the Jota (or whatever the final name will be) will start production by end of 2010 or early 2011, after the LP670 SV production stops and retooling of the assembly lines. Might make a 2011 Geneva appearance ? Anyone who hears differently, chip in please.  I wonder when exactly the LP670 SV will stop production..
