    Re: Ordering a 918 Spyder + buying 997.2 Turbo S Edition Spyder

    Lord_Driftalot:

@all many thanks for all your input / answers!

    Right now I / we're on either an Aventador or a MP4-12C, both with delivery in Q3 2011 (!!).

The "old" CGT as well as a Pagani are no options, as it still should be a DD...

Would your friend really be willing to buy a McLaren or Aventador "pototype" in Q3? I mean, these cars at the very beginning of their life cycle are prone to errors... One car is completely new, the other is from Italy and new... As a car enthusiast you know what that means Smiley

I'm loooking forward to the development of this car, I am sure Porsche will achieve something amazing.

I am a bit skeptical as far as the outcome of the 918 development process is concerned...

Somehow this hybrid concept has its roots in marketing/political ideas. The basic idea is to present a "highly fuel-efficient" sports car to the public. We all know that this marketing story is pure BS - the 918 will be far from being a fuel-efficient car (compared to how Green activists would define that).

Consequently, I am under the impression that the 918 will neither be ecologically correct nor will it meet the highest performance expectations - it might just be a compromise Smiley

Agreed, the idea of 3 L/100km, green supercar, blah blah blah, is pure marketing BS.

My rational behind my signature is that Porsche engineers know they have to create a worthy successor to the fabulous Carrera GT, hybrid or not hybrid.

Their latest GT cars have been absolutely amazing cars and, again, the 918 will have to outperform them.

In that respect, I am confident it will be a hugely exciting car.

And I love the idea of the "push to pass" button on the steering wheel.Smiley and not paying the congestion charge in London with a 718 hp carSmileySmileySmiley

I will make my final judgement when it'll be time to pay the third and final payment, by then we'll know the final specs.

    Lord_Driftalot:

    Hello,

a friend of mine is thinking of ordering a 918 Spyder and as well buying a 997.2 Turbo S Edition Spyder.

Do you think the 918 is worth the waiting time as well as the money for it?

I'm well aware that it's the successor of the Carrera GT which was in my opinion the best supersportscar at his time, but anyhow I'm not so shure about the 918...

My other question would be if you think that going for the (IMHO horrible) 997.2 Turbo S Edition Spyder is a good idea?

Would'nt it be better to go for one of the newest 991 at the end of the year instead of it?

I would rather suggest going for the new McLaren which would be available in Q1 2012...

I would highly appreciate if you would give me your opinion about it, many thanks in advance

To answer your question, if cash is not an issue, by all means, sign an order form, your friend can always get the deposit back whenever he wants.

For the Turbo, I agree with RC, if you like the color combo, sure, go for it, it's a great GT.

991 will have the novelty effect but won't be as performant as the 997 Turbo S.

Macca looks awesome on paper, right power, right weight, right price, but looks very conservative and dealer network is an issue.

If the concept should work it is the perfect solution: ultra-high performance and still you could tell your neighbour that the car has a fuel consumption of just 3l/100km Smiley Smiley

I read the officiel kerb weight is 1434 kgs with the right options.

It's not too bad for a GT Markus don't you think?

I mean, if you take a GT2RS with Air Con/ Satnav/ Leather, etc you're probably around the same weight no?

For a modern car with all its passive safety requirements, I'd say it respectable.

Lambo Aventador official dry weight is 1575 kgs, which means its on the road is approx kerb weight is 1700 kgs!Smiley

Sizewise, I haven't seen the Macca in person, but it looks rather compact, again, for a modern car.

Ah, sorry - I misunderstood you. I thought you said that the Aventador has the right weight Smiley

    Re: Ordering a 918 Spyder + buying 997.2 Turbo S Edition Spyder

@ MKSGR: As he owns his car(s) not very longer than 1 year and his stable is well equipped, potential failures are no threat to him.

I was also thinking of a 599 HGTE which is brand new, full-spec and with a discount of almost 15%!!

@ all thanks again to your assistance and opinions, I'll let you know what he's going for...

UPDATE: My friend is going for a new car order MP4-12C!

    Re: Ordering a 918 Spyder + buying 997.2 Turbo S Edition Spyder

    Hello,

a friend of mine is thinking of ordering a 918 Spyder and as well buying a 997.2 Turbo S Edition Spyder.

Do you think the 918 is worth the waiting time as well as the money for it?

No, it's not worth any of those. It costs twice as much then the Carerra Gt, and only has a V8. The hibrid stuff adds power but also adds weight, and you can't use that power anytime, just in "bursts" (plus you have to push a stupid button every time you want to release the e-power). I say skip it, and get the 928 which I've heard (from autobild) that will basically be a 918 coupe but without the hybrid crap (which will be optional).

At the moment that car is the only super.performance car below EUR 1mio, the Pagani as well as the Bugatti are no options for him.

Lol, I guess your friend is pretty poor then Smiley

He's also into the new Aventador, but when you're ordering it now the delivery will be Q3 2012 (!!), therefore I would recommend him going for the 918 order and for the meantime order a McLaren or the 991.

Aventador is nice but when the new gallardo comes out (next year?) it will be obsolete, like the murcielago was. Gallardo is simply a much better sports car! Look at it this way, for the money you pay for the 918 you can have a porsche 991, a porsche 928, and a Next gen Gallardo, and three super-cars (or two and a half) are better than one hiper-car IMHO.

The deposit payment would be EUR 180k upfront when singning the contract, then again 180k when the production starts next year and the rest at delivery...

    180 k- Gallardo, 180 k- porsche 928, and for the rest a 991..Smiley

edit: sorry, 961 not 928 :P Here's the link from autobild:

    Re: Ordering a 918 Spyder + buying 997.2 Turbo S Edition Spyder

    Rossi:

IMO the more interesting car will be the rumoured midengined supercar. In the new ams there's a short article about this car, which should be ready around 2015 and is said to have something like 600 hp. They also say Porsche dismissed their plans for a V8 Turbo and are now planning with a six cylinder boxer engine with turbos. Though I like V8s, the flat-six is THE Porsche engine par excellence. Smiley

I believe the flat six is reserved for the 911 mate. And it should stay so, no one will buy a midengine supercar with a turbo-craped flat6, when the competitors have screaming V8's or V10's at their disposal ! Also, the release date for the new supercar is end of 2013, acording to autobild.
