What Is Automatic Climate Control versus Climate Control?

My car is on order. Wont be here till the fall probably. Regardless what exactly is "automatic climate control" versus the climate control that comes in the car?

Maybe I am not picking up the subtlety here I always thought climate control was automatic versus the old fashioned heating/ac controls?

Anyone can explain to me what this option is?

Re: What Is Automatic Climate Control versus Climate Control?

The automatic climate control (I have it and for $550 it's a waste) has a button labeled "auto" where you set the desired interior temperature and the system "automatically" sustains that temperature, turing on the a/c or heat as needed. I usually just adjust it myself if I'm hot or cold anyway. The unit itself looks almost identical, but has a "max a/c" button where the "auto" button is. Hope this explains it.....

Re: What Is Automatic Climate Control versus Climate Control?

I agree a total waste of money even though I've got it in mine. My salesman said at the time that having it helps resale. The used car buyer at the same OPC I spoke to last week said the same.

Thanks - Dont Need It or Want It

Not worth $550 to me. Told the dealer to remove it from the car order.

I have the automatic nonsense in my Audi and it drives me crazy. Its either too hot or to cold. It continuously tries to adjust itself to the right temperature.

Plus when you open the windows and it does not know what to do.

Re: Thanks - Dont Need It or Want It

I would not buy a car without it...
You just set it to the temperature you want and it does everything for you, no need to adjust anything else... I always had it, and I will always have it !

Re: Thanks - Dont Need It or Want It

I agree with BangoO. To charge this kind of money for two simple sensors is a rip-off, but I condemned the day I decided to escape the rip-off by not ordering it for my BMW.
I'm always fiddling around with the aircon (the outside temp during my daily commute changes by a margin of +/- 4*C due to the hilly topography plus constantly changing weather conditions from sunny to cloudy). The BMW ecperience made me order the auto climate in the Boxster and I'm very happy with it (works perfect), though I cannot comment on the standard aircon in the P (didn't test it).
I assume due to the small passenger cabin the cabin temp might be even more volatile in changing weather conditions (sun/clouds) compared to a sedan. Maybe it's a waste of money in regions with a climate like the Emirates

Re: Thanks - Dont Need It or Want It

Climate works brilliantly on my 986 - way better than my dad's Volvo. Wouldn't hestitate to specify it again, even at extortionate Porsche prices

Re: Thanks - Dont Need It or Want It

I have it in my 987S and had it in my 986S, but dont remember paying extra for it. I rarely touch it, it just does the job.

Re: Thanks - Dont Need It or Want It

IMHO it is a big waste of money. I can set it myself and, if needed, it is no big deal to adjust. I think that money is better spent on the sport seats and sport steering wheel.

Re: Thanks - Dont Need It or Want It

I have had it on both of my Boxster Ss as well as my BMW and found it works well. However, I think it should be a standard feature not an option on a $60,000 plus sport car.

Re: Thanks - Dont Need It or Want It

Agreed. It should be standard but its not. For $500, I don't mind does its job, and I never really have to adjust it, even with the top down. During colder days with the top down, I just hit eco, and bump up the temperature and fans.

Re: Thanks - Dont Need It or Want It

I am always altering the temperature controll on AAC, but i do get the impression that for some reason it produces colder air than the std air con.

Several owners have commented after driving days in cars with and without AAC - i find it hard to believe that any major components are any different between the systems tho.

Re: Thanks - Dont Need It or Want It

My 986 has an Auto button. I hate it. It is always doing what it thinks which is 99% not what I want. I wish mine just had 2 round knobs. I wish there was a total electronic climate gadgetry delete option.
