The Musk text messages are very clearcut in his allegations.  The Brit's side of the story is open to interpretations as reporters have a propensity for selective reporting of statements made by interviewees.  Musk should be cognizant of that fact and refrained from lashing out at the Brit hero.

    Re: Tesla Roadster

Musk is a PR stunt chaser, nothing more, and the Brit, who knows the cave better than anyone else, stolen all his thunder with a dose of realism, bluntly put but realism no less and called it as it was, a ridiculous idea and nothing more than PR stunt. That is why it bothered Musk so much, if all that he wanted was to genuinely help and nothing more, he would of not cared the least. But even more worrying is how an important CEO with so much depending on him and his judgement can react like that and have so little self control, moderation and comon sense.

Musk comment was out of line, no doubt. It’s inexcusable

    but so was this:

Late last week, a CNN posted a video in which Mr. Unsworth called Mr. Musk’s mini-sub a “PR stunt,” saying it “had absolutely no chance of working” because it was too big for the cave. “He can stick his submarine where it hurts,” Mr. Unsworth said.

Takes a special person to lash out like he has.

I would be careful with a definite opinion about Musk because we don't know exactly what happened.

It seems he wanted to help, the Thai government requested his help as well but the rescue team at the location didn't want his help and the team leader even ridiculed Musk's involvement, which isn't really a nice thing to do.

Musk referred the pedophile comment to the English team leader, who ridiculed him (he said Musk can shove his "submarine" into his ass...or something like that).

Musk should be intelligent (and well educated) enough to refrain from making such comments/attacks but even if his (Musk) tech wasn't really helpful for the emergency operation, the team leader of the rescue team should have used a different language to express that. Both made a mistake but considering the circumstances, maybe understandable (lots of pressure, lots of emotions involved).

Both should apologize to each other and move on...

We should talk about this guy, Saman Gunan, a former Thai Navy SEAL who died in the rescue operation. He deserves to be remembered.

We do know the facts since there are images of Musk’s tweets in response to the CNN’s article.   Those tweets are in the article above.   Regardless what the Brit stated, Musk needed to avoid entering into the fray, he did not.   He actually escalated the issues.  This isn’t appropriate behavior for a CEO of a major corporation.  Others have been fired for less.

    Re: Tesla Roadster

Yes, Musk's behavior was inappropriate but so was what the British rescue team leader said... You don't spit into someone's face if he tries to help you, no matter the reason. I even believe that Musk didn't want to land a publicity stunt, he just wanted to help and thought "his" tech would do the job.

It is my understanding that even the "real" US Navy SEALs offered to help but the rescue team declined for whatever reason.

If you think you get the whole picture from the media, I doubt it. Musk is too much of a public figure to pass on a "good story" on him but yes, he should never have said what he said, this is not worthy of a CEO of a major company, right.

Believed that was addressed above with reply that one is not sure what the Brit said beforehand and after his direct comments on Musk.   Media tends to selectively take the most salacious of statements.  Plus we have no idea what actually transpired at the cave when Musk made his appearance.

It is doubtful that active duty U.S. Navy Seals would be offered to assist with rescue; retired Seals and other assets, yes.

Regardless of who said what, a CEO of a major company is typically held to a higher standard than the average person.     Even a cursory search of the Internet will reveal this to be true.

We, as a nation, are always willing to help and will dedicate significant resources, if required. The question still remains: Seals or other assets?   There are other groups more uniquely suited for this type of mission of search and rescue including the U.S. Air Force’s PJs or Para-jumpers.

The answers from Jeremy Arnold and Dhruv Raj Singh Chandel does help to put things into perspective.

I think this section sums it up:

"This should be treated as a lesson for rich and famous people not to jump into the middle of a crisis situation just because their fame allows them to. It would have been absolutely fine, and indeed laudable, for Musk to develop a solution to the problem which could be used by people in the future. But he shouldn’t be making people’s jobs more difficult by turning up in the middle of a rescue operation in an area he has no expertise in. He was rightly called out for his arrogance and presumption of superiority."

Musk's pedophile comment is so inappropriate there is no excuse. I will never buy a Tesla Smiley

    Re: Tesla Roadster

It is obvious than Musk got involved (uninvited) for the free publicity without having anything of substance to offer.

The British Diver used an expression which might not be elegant but this type of seasoned individuals who haven't spent their lives in nice offices and cushy jobs often speak rough. No problem for me.

Musk hasn't accused just the Diver of pedophilia but his presumption was that every foreigner who lives or works in Thailand or in the region is there for the underage sex. So, in his remark Musk has offended numerous people not just the British guy.

Musk has become too inflated it seems but he should know that fate and destiny can be sometimes cruel to the arrogant and the self-important.

I never liked the Tesla brand anyway

Your hate towards Musk makes you hate everything he is involved in automatically.

He might not have experience in this particular field, indeed, but he is running a company which is building space rockets. SPACE ROCKETS. Come on, I'm not saying his move wasn't a desesperate PR stunt but give the guy some credit.

In cases like this all assistance should be welcomed, then is up to them (the rescue team) whether they use the added resources or not.

I'm not pointing anyone Carlos. But imho most of you/the guys around here criticize every single move coming from him.

I fondly dislike Tesla poor interior, battery drain when the car is pushed hard, etc. But they nailed it manufacturing the first good looking EV + an astonishing performance.

I'm not a huge fan of his (lack of?) managment in front of Tesla. However I applaud his initiative.

I'm not a huge fan of EV either, ICE guy here. However I embrace the innovation when done properly and I admire how such a "small" company like Tesla has shaked up an almost monopolystic industry as the car industry is.

I'm not a huge fan of Tesla's stock volatility. But it's true that there have been gurus trying to predict company's end for years and they have failed miserably until today. There are lot of factors to consider further other than Tesla production  wreck.

On the other hand you (again, not you personally but lots of members from RT) seem to be really excited about hypothetical plans and proyects from VAG f.e. Having said that, this same excitement doesn't apply to Tesla, don't know why, when the american company has thousands of cars out there (knowledge) and millions of electric kilometers (data).

Unlike some of the electric car nut here. or those from the EV forums, most of us here are fairly objective instead of blindly drinking Musk's koolaid. Most of us are quite successful in what we do and we don't get to where we are today by blindly believing some wild tales as told by some wild guy.

Why are we critical of what Elon said? Cause most of what he said are plain lies and fairy tales. The books are all there, the numbers are all there, Elon try to sugar coat stuff to make them go down easy, but if anyone just spend some time reading the reports and one can see that Elon is just doing PR stunts playing with his numbers every time.

Tesla is not a highly established entity yet, and Elon is not helping by posting fairy tales after fairy tales and unrealistic numbers. Hence the skepticism. Porsche on the other hand has a long history already, and everything they have ever said are all understatements, their actual product always exceed what they had promised. That's why. When is the last time Porsche didn't meet their expectation, vs how many times Elon had postpone his production target?

And the point iisthat in spite tue above he doesn't get a break or a pass for calling someone a pedophile on a tweet that is going to reach millions, that is so wrong at so many levels, dont care who he is.

Dont have a clue about hypothetical plans from VAG, the only ones I reallu follow are tje Mission E because its Porsche's and most likely the first EV that handles properly and can hold performance for more than 5 minutes. And even then Im not lining up as a customer just yet. Maybe an EV macan for my wife but not for me.
