    ecu tuning

I am thinking of ecu tuning for my 997 4s mod 06.
    I have read about apr,softronic,revo...

    what about ecu tuning?
    what have you test?
    any results in dyno?

    Re: ecu tuning

i would go with techart. then again i think you might want to consider the porsche packager with sport exhaust.

oem is always better for resale and more pricey.

Any tuning made on these atmo M96 engines, wont give you significant power increase. There are companies who promise 30 to 50 power gains, and I would say, the more they promise, the less credible they are. Only way to gain real power on these units is forced induction, but you may have reliable problems. If you want a different sound, then sport exhaust is the way to go, but then again, try to work with a credible tuning company in order not to loose power with this modification. I´m sorry to say but there´s really nothing you can do to gain real power...been there done that.

thanks for answers!i let you know...

    Re: ecu tuning

I agree that modifications on a n/a-engine are more expensive than on turbocharged engines and might change the characterstic (more power at higher rpm, possibly lower /uneven torque at low rpm).

If one would consider to modify the M96 engine, I´d personally suggest Porsche´s own X51 powerkit or possibly Wendland. Ruf offers a supercharger kit which has been tested in the current Sportauto and received high praise, albeit being at a significant price tag.

In terms of resale you are certainly better of with Porsche´s own offers but one has to ask wether it makes sense to put that much money on that particular engine type.

What Sport Auto came with RUF SC car tested? This month number?  Was a 996 or 997? If you have the magazine with you, would you care to give us the performance numbers and system price? Thanks in advance.

    Re: ecu tuning

They tested a 997.1 Carrera conv. 3.6 with supercharger upgrade to 445 hp and brake upgrade (S-model spec iron brake).

Have to consult the magazine back home for any numbers, unless any other users can provide them.

Bottom line was a very fast (acceleration and laptime) car, supercharger almost undiscernible, the car is nonetheless in the price region of the Turbo.

Thanks Ferdie. Try to get performance numbers when you can.

    Re: ecu tuning

    Thanks Ferdie Smiley.

RUF is known to understate their power values, but this time around, this car isn´t making more than REAL 400/410hp. If you look to 996TT, which has 420Hp and weights more than SC RUF car, it can get faster to 100 and 200Kph.

Carrera S PDK can get this same performance with "only" 385hp, so I believe this time around RUF isn´t being to accurate with this power figures.

Then again, it´s a prove that SC or Turbo are the best way to boost power on these "time bomb" Smiley engines.

    Re: ecu tuning

    You´re welcome.

To be honest, I am not too much into these numbers but if one consults the test with the 996 Turbo (1 & 2) and 997 Carrera (1 & 2), Ruf´s performance is still competitive. Not sure about temperatures at testing, could contribute to those numbers as well.

I personally would not modify the M96/97 engine to such an extend and price - since Porsche offers the Turbo models with more solid engine and upgraded suspension.

Agree 100% , really doesn´t make any sence to drop 30000 euros on these mods, when you can get a 996TT for the same price and way more reliable, and I wont even mention the resale value on these moded cars.

Regarding the times you posted, they were by far the slowest I have ever seen.

Here´s some links with other performance figures

    997.2 PDK

    996TT

    http://www.fastestlaps.com/car45af6445ed554.html

And here´s a test made in June on Motor Sport magazine:

    R8 V10 vs Jaguar XKR vs Nissan GT-R vs 997.2 PDK (997 made  4,2sec 0-100 / 14,3 0-200Kph)

    J.Seven

    Re: ecu tuning

And here´s performance table posted here with.

997.2 PDK made 14,9 0-200Kph (Tested by Sport Auto magazine)

Having in mind al these times, it´s fair to say the SC RUF figures are in pair with the 997.2 PDK

    Re: ecu tuning

Yes, but... the Ruf´s 100 - 200 kph time is 9.8 sec, which is considerably faster than the Carrera. Furthermore, don´t underestimate the influence of PDK on the later, it should be responsible for at least .2 seconds to 200 kph.

All in all I agree with you that one might expect a slightly faster time than what was posted, possibly in the 13.x sec range.
