    Celebrity lawyer Nick Freeman arrested

Nick Freeman, the lawyer well known for getting celebrities off driving offences, has been arrested by Manchester police for 'conspiring to pervert the course of justice'.

Mr Freeman, also known as 'Mr Loophole', was due to represent me in Court next week to defend a speeding charge to which he advised me to plead not guilty on a technicality!

Where does that leave me now? This is really bad timing.

Re: Celebrity lawyer Nick Freeman arrested

Is that the guy that appeared on Fifth Gear??

    Btw, your signature scares me

Re: Celebrity lawyer Nick Freeman arrested

He is hardly going to be banged up till his trial?

Re: Celebrity lawyer Nick Freeman arrested

Yeh I saw that one the BBC news site today ( >story< ). Very bad timing for you indeed John.

Hope your 'accused' speeding wasn't too severe as to warrant a ban if Nick isn't available...

I wish you good luck mate!

No he's not - but it's bound to affect his credibility in the eyes of the court, whether he's eventually found guilty or not!

This is particularly relevant when his primary defence tactic is undermining the credibility of police procedures.

Thanks Alex - I think I may need it!

Yes it will be a ban if found guilty (110mph)

My defence is incorrect calibration procedure for the speedometer in the police car.

BTW - They also got my name wrong in the summons, plus incorrect date of birth, plus incorrect registration number of my car.

If it had been a camera, I'd be home free. But it wasn't - they said they followed me for 8 miles, without me seeing them. That's hard to believe as I check mirrors constantly! Then followed me to my house, breathalysed me, which was negative, and then reported me for speeding over the last half mile home.

Have to hope whoever represents me knows his stuff.

Re: Celebrity lawyer Nick Freeman arrested

I feel for you John. Please let us know how you get on.

A similar thing happened to me the other week actually. I was leisurely cruising along the M4 (@70mph) in my 911 and I came up to some traffic with the fast lane going only about 60mph. So, as I had nothing behind me at the time and the traffic in the fast lane was all dangerously tightly packed together, I thought I'd sit back and wait my turn in the middle lane.

Anyway, just as the fast lane started to move I noticed about 100m away a big Range Rover coming up with what looked like lots of traffic behind. So as not to lose my place in the queue I immediately jumped back into the fast lane. Next thing I see in my rear view mirror is the Range Rover slamming on its breaks from what must have been well over 100mph (given how quickly he covered that 100m). He then proceeded to tail-gate me for about 60 seconds being literally about 30cm away from my back bumper the whole time.

So as the traffic in the fast lane cleared and pulled over into the middle lane I thought to myself "right, I'm getting away from this [beep]". I stuck my foot down and quickly got passed the remaining 100m of 'packed-in' middle lane traffic leaving the Range Rover instantly behind in my wake.

At this point the Range Rover suddenly threw on his hidden Police flashing lights (that were in his grill) and came right up behind me again. I instantly pulled over into the middle lane to get out of his way and took it down to well under 70mph again. He then came along side me and just as he went passed, deliberately swerved right in front of me (going at least 90mph) - as if to say "I would have nicked you but I've been called away on something else" - and then sped off (back into the fast lane). He nearly rolled it the swerve was so severe!!

I was furious! I almost wanted to chase after him and give him an earful about HIS reckless driving! I wouldn't have put my foot down in the first place if it wasn't trying to get away from his bad driving.

So what with speed cameras purely as revenue makers and Police cars intimidating road users into speeding, the whole concept of 'safe driving enforcement' is a total joke in this country!

Re: Celebrity lawyer Nick Freeman arrested

You're right Alex and it's resulting in some atrocious examples of bad driving which go unpunished.

    John,

I subscribe to Nick Freeman's 'Keep On Driving' system.

Only last week, I discussed being defended by one of their normal barristers for my 10 minutes in court in December.

I decided that with costs being around Pounds1500 I would defend myself. If normal run of the mill representation is running at that much for ten mins. I Wouldn't want to see the bill for the man himself defending in a decent case!

    Cheers

    Add,

Were you advised to plead guilty or not guilty?

Are you likely to face a ban for your 'offence'?

I think these factors are critical in deciding whether to defend yourself or not. Although I've defended myself successfully in Court on smaller motoring issues, I don't feel confident in pleading a 'technicality' and then facing cross-examination from the prosecution lawyers.

I'd be interested to know your thoughts.

    Porker/Vtrader,

It's not scary - just a clever bit of fun.
